Thirty years on, his son Dr Nejat Eczacibasi continued the family’s flair of innovation by establishing a pharmaceutical laboratory in Istanbul. This business grew rapidly and in 1952 he opened the first Turkish modern pharmaceutical plant. Within the decade Eczacibasi’s vision had grown to encompass ceramic sanitaryware and in 1958 he created the first centre for its production in Turkey. VitrA was born.
VitrA’s innovation centre is the creative hub for the design and production of new materials, processes and technologies for our bathroom products and tiles. Here, architects and designers are encouraged to free their imaginations and original ideas are showcased in a setting that blends design with culture, art and lifestyle.
This approach results in innovative solutions that transform an ordinary bathroom into an exceptional living space – new ideas that improve comfort and ergonomy, and ensure sustainability.
VitrA’s designers form a global pool of exceptional talent, evidenced by the many accolades VitrA has been awarded. Among these are the Wallpaper Design Awards for Best Bathroom, an Elle Decor Award, Good Design Award and Red Dot Design Awards. This year VitrA received three 2013 iF product design awards for excellence in product and design quality.
This would have never been possible without the strong relationships VitrA upholds with its designers. One key example being NOA, a German design studio that has collaborated with VitrA to produce the highly popular Retro, Sunrise, S50 and S20 collections.
